Tom Kelly '78

Tom Kelly was a member of the Edina East 1978 State Championship Hockey Team, and named to both the All Conference and All State teams. In 1997, Tom served as Co-Captain of the soccer team and distinguished himself being nominated to the All Conferenc and All-Midwest teams. Tom continued his hockey career at Colorado college and played one year of professional hockey in Germany after graduation. Tom returned to Edina where he remained passionate about youth sports. Sadly, Tom passed away in 1992 after a tough battle with Hodgkins disease.

Pat Carroll '81

In 1981, Pat Carroll ignited bot the ice and the diamond as he was voted All Conference in both hockey and baseball. During the 1980-81 hockey season, Pat led both the team and conference in scoring. Keeping the momentum going into spring, Pat led the baseball team in hits, and was named a Co-MVP. That spring the team placed 3rd in State. Focusing on hockey, Pat built a distinguished career at Mankato State. Pat lived in Each with wife Lynn and their two children. He us currently the Assistant Girls Hockey Coach at Eagan High School and also referees high school hockey games.

Wally Chapman '82

Along with fellow honoree John DeVoe, Wally played forward on Edina's 1982 State Championship Hockey Team. Wally remembers, "Looking back, I feel very fortunate to have been a senior in 1982. Being part of the first class of the re-combined schools was a great year of making new friends and having very competitive teams in all sports." In the spring of 1982, Wally was named All Conference, All State and was drafted in the 3rd round by the Minnesota North Stars. Wally attended the University of Minnesota where he played hockey for four years. In 1986, Wally guided the team to the Frozen Four. After graduation, Wally played professional hockey in Germany, and in 1988 joined the AHL Utica Devils. Today, Wally lives in Edina with his wife Eva and three children Blake, Abbey and Izzey.

John DeVoe '82

John DeVoe played right wing on the historic EHS hockey team that combined the extraordinary talents of players from both Edina East and West into one program in 1981. Deep with talent, the team won the 1982 State Championship. The 1982 team holds the American High School record for having six players drafted by the NHL. John's athletic accomplishments were not limited to the ice. John excelled on the baseball field where he was the stolen base champion, named to both All Conference and the Metro All Star team, and was picked as the MVP of the State All Star game. John attended Providence College where he played hockey and led the Friars to an ECAC League Championship and a second place finish in the NCAA National Championship. John currently lives in Edina with his wife Maggie and three children, Ryan, Molly and Johnny.

Kate Riley Smith '88

Kate Riley Smith was a basketball phenomenon who led Edina to its first and only Girls' State Championship in 1988. Tying the championship game at the buzzer, Edina dominated in OT and took the title. Kate won an All Conference award, was named to the All State team and All Star Metro teams. Kate played four years of women's varsity basketball at the University of Illinois. Kate played semi-professional basketball for the Chicago Challengers while earning an MBA From Northwestern University's JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Kate lives in Minnetonka with husband Tom and daughter Alison.

Tom Presthus '93

Tom credits a large part of his successful soccer career on his EHS coaching staff. "Dave Jensen, Bill Garner, Doug Nissen and Matt Kennedy ignited the passion I have for soccer." Tom's high school athletic achievements include being named to two All Conference and All State teams, and serving as Captain for two years. Tom was an All American at Southern Methodist University playing varsity soccer and leading as Captain for three years. Tom was drafted in the second round by DC United in the 1997 Major League Soccer Draft. In both 1997 and 1999 DC was the MLS Cup Champion. In 2001 Tom joined the Columbus Crew serving once again as captain. Tom lives in Ohio with his wife Melissa and two sons TJ and Owen.

Hilary Homeyer Lunke '97

Hilary Homeyer Lunke arrived in Edina in 1995 and wowed the community with both her academic and athletic prowess. Her belief in forging her own path and not trying to be like everyone else to fit in helped her win two State Championship golf team titles, and an Individual state title in 1997. Hilary's drive and focus were not limited to the golf course as she graduated first in her graduation class of 1997. The Star Tribune named Hilary the 1997 Metro Scholar Athlete of the Year. Hilary's drive for excellence continued during her four years at Stanfort Univeristy. On July 7, 2003, Hilary stunned the golfing world by winning the Women's US Open in an 18-hole playoff round. Hilary became the first player to win the Open after having gained entry by advancing through local and sectional qualifying rounds. Hilary continues to play professional golf and focuses on her family, husband Tyler and daughter Greta.

Bob Savre, Coach

Bob Savre graced the classroom, basketball court and playing fields of Edina high School for 29 year. During his coaching tenure, the Edina Boys Basketball team won three Lake Conference Championships, and in 1983 Bob led the team into the State Championship tournament undefeated. Bob served as the Assistant Varsity Football coach, and helped guide the team to win the 1978 State Championship for three years, Bob served as the head coach of the Boys JV Baseball team. Bob and his wife Avis enjoy spending time with their four sons and their seven grandchildren.
